How We Rank Listings

How We Rank Listings

When you search, we score every property that matches your criteria and show the highest scoring first. Four things decide that score, and they do not carry equal weight.

01

What decides the order

Availability for your dates carries the most weight. A property that cannot be booked for the dates you asked for does not appear at all, unless you have chosen to include unavailable properties.

Guest ratings and location relevance carry equal weight, and between them they matter more than anything else once availability is settled. Ratings are adjusted for how many reviews a property has, so a property rated 4.5 across a hundred stays ranks above one rated 5.0 from two reviews. Location relevance measures how close a property is to the place or map area you searched.

Price carries the least weight of the four. It is measured against the other properties in your results rather than against a fixed threshold.

Where two properties score the same, we show the better rated one first, then the one with more reviews.

02

Commission never affects your results

We earn a commission from the supplier when you book, and the rate differs between suppliers. It is not one of the four factors above and plays no part in the order you see. Suppliers cannot pay us for a higher position, and we do not sell placement, sponsored slots or featured positions. If we ever introduce paid placement, it will be clearly labelled and kept separate from these results.

03

Labels on results

Some results carry a short label such as “Top rated in this area” or “Great value”. That label tells you which of the four factors did the most work for that property.

04

Where the same property appears more than once

Where a property is available from more than one supplier, we show a single listing and choose which offer to display using the same four factors.
