Our commitment
stay.cx is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We want every visitor to be able to browse properties, read our editorial content, and make bookings with ease, regardless of ability or the technology they use.
Standard we follow
We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines are the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility and are referenced by the European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882), which has been in force since June 2025, and are the reference standard under accessibility law in the other markets we serve. We are partially conformant at present: most of the site meets Level AA, but some areas do not yet fully conform, as set out under "Known limitations" below. We are actively working to close these gaps.
WCAG 2.1 Level AA covers four principles. Content should be perceivable (you can see or hear it), operable (you can navigate and interact with it), understandable (you can make sense of it), and robust (it works reliably across different browsers and assistive technologies).
What we do
- We use semantic HTML with proper heading structure, landmarks, and form labels so that screen readers can navigate the site effectively.
- We provide descriptive alt text for property images wherever possible, so that the content of an image can be conveyed to screen-reader users. Some supplier-provided images may not yet have fully optimised alt text; we are improving this on an ongoing basis.
- We maintain sufficient colour contrast between text and backgrounds throughout the site.
- Interactive elements such as links, buttons, form fields, and filters are designed to be operable by keyboard. Keyboard support for some interactive map controls is not yet complete; see “Known limitations” below.
- We set the correct language attribute on every page to support screen readers across our 33 language versions and 58 locales.
- We do not use flashing or rapidly moving content that could cause seizures.
- We do not require a mouse to complete any action on the site, including making a booking.
- We run automated accessibility testing as part of our development process to catch issues before they reach you.
Known limitations
While we strive for full conformance, there may be areas where we fall short. In particular:
- Some older property descriptions provided by our suppliers may not yet have fully optimised alt text or formatting. We are progressively improving this.
- Interactive map components may have limited keyboard navigation in some browsers. We are working with our mapping provider to improve this.
- Third-party content embedded during the payment process (the supplier’s payment form, where one is embedded) is outside our direct control, though we work with suppliers who use accessible payment systems.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on stay.cx, we want to know about it so we can fix it.
